Ribbon Cutting at Grand Opening

Veterans Resource Center

Clovis Community College Veterans Resource Center

Clovis Community College proudly held a grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, November 9, 2017 for the new Veterans Resource Center.

Joining president Dr. Lori Bennett were administrators, faculty, staff, students, elected officials, community leaders, and representatives from various veterans organizations.

Currently, the college serves nearly 100 veteran students and the number is expected to grow in the coming years.

The Veterans Resource Center serves three very important purposes. First, to provide a comfortable space where veteran students, whether they are attending college for the first time or re-entering after military service, can study, relax, and talk with other student veterans. The center was designed to provide a feeling of community and connection for veteran students, which is so important to student success.

Second, it creates a space for the college to provide counseling, registration, and other student support services designed specifically for veteran students and their educational needs.

Third, the Veterans Resource Center will be a location where the college’s community partners can provide a variety of veteran services to the veteran students.

In addition, Clovis Community College is excited about receiving recent approval from the California State Approving Agency for Veterans Education to certify GI Bill benefits, which means veteran students can easily access and utilize their GI Bill benefits to pursue their educational goals at Clovis Community College.

“Those of us at Clovis Community College, like our Clovis and Fresno community neighbors, value our country’s Veterans not only for their military service, but also for what they will do to lead and support our community in the future,” said president Dr. Lori Bennett.

Assemblymember Jim Patterson presented the college with a framed certificate of recognition which is proudly displayed in the Veterans Resource Center. In addition, certificates of recognition were received from the City of Fresno, City of Clovis, County of Fresno, Assemblymember Dr. Joaquin Arambula, Senator Tom Berryhill, Congressman Devin Nunes, and Senator Dianne Feinstein.

Ambassadors from the Clovis Chamber of Commerce and Greater Fresno Chamber of Commerce organized the ribbon cutting.

State Center Community College District (SCCCD) Board of Trustees in attendance included John Leal, Debbie Ikeda, Ron Nishinaka, and SCCCD Chancellor Dr. Paul Parnell.

Lt. Col. (Retired) Mr. Lorenzo Rios, Chief Executive Officer of the Clovis Veterans Memorial District, attended and emphasized how he values the country’s veterans, not only for what they did within the United States military, but also for what they will do as leaders in our community.

The Veterans Resource Center is located in Academic Center Building Two, Room 121 at the Clovis Campus.
