Monthly Board Highlights - April 2018

If you were unable to attend the April 3, 2018 Board of Trustees meeting, here are some of the actions that took place:

Board President Bobby Kahn announced the passing of FCC Veterans Services Coordinator, Mary Alfieris, and dedicated the Board meeting in her honor.

The Board came out of Closed Session and reported the purchase of property on E. Church Ave between Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd and Walnut Ave. SCCCD is purchasing half of the 26.06 acres and the other half of the land will be donated by 2500 MLK, LLC. The principal owners are the Shehadey Family and Sylvesta Hall. The District is spending $1,759,050,000 of Measure C funds and will acquire property valued at $3,518,100.00. Escrow is expected to close on or before June 17, 2018.

The Board of Trustees heard the following reports and presentations:

  • Academic Senate Report
  • Classified Senate Report
  • Chancellor’s Review of Board Policy 2110 (Vacancies on the Board) which had no changes. They also had the first read of BP 6600 (Capital Construction).

Academic personnel transactions including the following retirements:

  • David Atencio, RC Information Systems Instructor 3/18/18
  • Michael Dana, FCC Music Instructor 3/18/18
  • Sandra Bolt, FCC Business Technology Instructor 3/19/18
  • Laurie Tidyman-Jones, RC Counselor 7/1/18
  • Brian Tessler, FCC Head Basketball Coach 7-3-18
  • Doris Barthold-McKay, Chancellor’s Administrative Secretary 5/9/18
  • Barbara Martin will be the Chancellor’s Administrative Secretary beginning 4/16/18.

Agreement with Golden Five Consulting in the amount of $383,300 to provide a comprehensive upgrade to the Microsoft technology infrastructure systems of the district. It will be paid for with $100,000 Title V Collaborative Grant Project Funds and $283,300 Unrestricted General Fund dollars.

Purchase of portable buildings for use by the Police and Fire Academies at Fresno City College. The cost to purchase these four buildings is estimated at $575,000 with funding provided by Measure C Funds for Fresno City College.

Second Read of Board Policy 3250 - Institutional Planning, by Paul Parnell

Second Read of New Board Policy 3440 - Service Animals and Emotional Support/Comfort Animals on District Property, by Julianna Mosier.

2018 ballot for California Community College Trustees board. One of the five candidates is Trustee Eric Payne.

Approved the following grant agreement recommendations:

Fresno City College has received an agreement from Chabot-Las Positas Community College District for the Education Futures Project. The $150,000 funding will provide support to student's pathway in the education pathway in the anticipated teacher shortage. This grant is part of the California Community College Chancellor's Office Strong Workforce initiative.

The Center for International Trade Development has received an agreement from the California Department of Food and Agriculture. The $197,326 funding will provide opportunities for the many new-to-export small businesses that have challenges expanding into foreign markets.
