Monthly Board Highlights - November 2021

If you were unable to attend the November 2, 2021 Special and Regular Board of Trustees meetings, here are some of the actions that took place.

In the Special Board meeting, the Board went into closed session with PPL Inc. for an update on the Chancellor Search process. Following the Closed Session, the Board reports as follows: There is nothing to report at this time.

In the Regular Board of Trustees meeting, the Board heard the following reports and presentations:

  • College Highlight featuring Fresno City College’s Fire Academy Director Peter Cacossa and Fresno City College Fire Academy students Scott Jaeckel and Grey Ray on their trip to New York to participate in the 20th anniversary of 9/11.
  • Regional COVID Update by District Director Environmental Health & Risk Management Darren Cousineau
  • COVID Mitigation Implementation Update by Interim Chancellor Douglas Houston
  • Redistricting description of four proposed trustee area maps with the new Census data by attorney
  • David Soldani of Atkinson, Andelson, Loya, Rudd & Romo and demographer Justin Rich of Cooperative Strategies
  • CARES/HEERF funding status by Interim Chancellor Douglas Houston

Approved the following Grant Agreements:

Reedley College has received a new $2,773,750 Educational Talent Search grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Talent Search is one of the federal TRIO programs established to increase access to higher education for economically disadvantaged students. Reedley College will partner with Parlier and Dinuba high schools to obtain the program's objectives including dual enrollment, increasing STEM majors, and workforce soft skills. The funding will be received over five years.

Clovis Community College has received a new $103,034 California Education Learning Lab subaward from California State University, Fresno Foundation. The funding is made available from the California Learning Lab and Governor's Office of Planning and Research. The funding will provide the resources to host the "On-Ramp to STEM" program. The project will adapt, launch, test, and refine SCALE (Student Centered Adaptive Learning Engine), an open-source adaptive learning technology developed by the University of Virginia.

Fresno City college has received a $22,500 Youth Empowerment Strategies for Success - Independent Living Program renewal agreement from the Foundation for California Community Colleges. The funding will continue to provide training, daily life skills training, and employment preparation training to foster youth and probation youth ages 16 to 21.
