The Associate in Arts in Art History for Transfer Degree emphasizes the study of cultural activities and artistic expression of human beings. Students will evaluate and interpret the ways in which people, throughout history, in different cultures and geographic locations, have responded to the world around them through artistic and cultural production. Students will learn: Fundamental art and art historical terminology. Appreciation for the creative process. In addition, to analyze works of art in order to articulate the historical, social and aesthetic functions of art.

Program Learning Outcomes:
- Apply knowledge of art historical terminology to the description of artwork.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in order to describe and analyze the artistic contributions of diverse peoples.
- Utilize critical thinking to discuss works of art in a personal, cultural, and global context.
- Evaluate and analyze the strengths and weaknesses of an artwork's effectiveness to visually communicate.
To obtain the Associate in Arts in Art History for Transfer Degree, students must complete the following requirements:
- Completion of 60-semester units or 90 quarter units that are eligible for transfer to the California State University, including both of the following:
- The Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or the California State University General Education – Breadth requirements.
- A minimum of 18-semester units or 27 quarter units in a major or area of emphasis, as determined by the community college district.
- Obtainment of a minimum grade point average of 2.0. Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADTs) also require that students must earn a “C” grade or better in all courses required for the major or area of emphasis.
- Certification of either the California State University General Education Breadth (CSU GE-Breadth) or the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC-CSU version) is required.
