The Associate in Arts in Elementary Teacher Education for Transfer Degree prepares students for transfer into a baccalaureate level degree at any of the California State University campuses. The Elementary Teacher Education program prepares students for jobs teaching in the Kindergarten through eighth (K-8) grades in the public and private education system. While the program’s curriculum allows for the development of knowledge and skills in the subject matter taught in the K-8 grades students must ultimately complete a multiple subject credential usually after their Bachelor’s degree in addition to passing the CBEST and CSET exams.

- Additional information for Elementary Teacher Education AA-T and transfer to CSU Fresno:
- IS 15, Computer Concepts, satisfies the required computer competency course for CSU Fresno Liberal Studies Major.
- LING 11, Introduction to Language for Teachers, is required for students planning to transfer and enter the CSU Fresno Liberal Studies major cohort program.
- Math 10B, Structure and Concepts in Mathematics II
- Certification of either the California State University General Education Breadth (CSU GE-Breadth) or the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC-CSU version) is required. CSU GE- Breadth and IGETC advising sheets are available in Student Services, AC2-133 or online at CCC GE (CSU/UC) GE and Major Sheets.
- Courses may double count in the major and CSU GE-Breadth or IGETC.
Program Learning Outcome:
- Demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills to the common core courses in the sciences, math, arts, and humanities.
To obtain the Associate in Arts in Elementary Teacher Education for Transfer Degree, students must complete the following requirements:
- Completion of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units that are eligible for transfer to the California State University, including both of the following:
- The Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or the California State University General Education – Breadth requirements.
- A minimum of 18 semester units or 27 quarter units in a major or area of emphasis, as determined by the community college district.
- Obtainment of a minimum grade point average of 2.0. Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADTs) also require that students must earn a “C” grade or better in all courses required for the major or area of emphasis.
