Child Development Associate in Science Degree 2021-2022

The Child Development Associate in Science Degree is designed to prepare students to work with young children in a variety of early care and education settings. Upon completion of the A.S. degree, a student possesses the course work required to work as a teacher in both private and public early care and education settings serving preschool-age children. Additionally, students completing documented work experience are eligible to apply for the California Child Development Permit through the Commission of Teacher Credentialing at either the Teacher, Master Teacher, or Site Supervisor Level which qualifies the student to work in a State of California funded (Title 5) early care and education program

Major requirements (30 units minimum)

Additional Information

(1) Students need to provide verification of immunization against influenza, pertussis, and measles, and freedom from tuberculosis.

(2) Students needs to complete ECE 1,2, & 3 before taking this course

(3) Students need to complete ECE 1, ECE 2, ECE 3, & ECE 5 prior to taking this course.

(4) Students need to complete ECE 1 and ECE 2 prior to taking this course.

When selecting courses from lists A and B, the base selection on the area of specialization or career goal, for example; Preschool, infant/toddler school age or early intervention. It is recommended that you meet with one of the child development instructors.
