Disability Awareness Month

What is Disability Awareness Month?

Chances are you may know someone with a physical or mental health disability. What many people do not know is, October is Disability Awareness Month. During this month, individuals with disabilities and disability groups all over the US celebrate the strides the country has made to become more accessible and equitable for people with disabilities.

This year marks the 30th year of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the 75th year of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). To celebrate these milestones this year’s theme is titled “Increasing Access and Opportunity”.

Clovis Community College is joining the celebration! DSP&S has collaborated with the Fresno Department of Rehabilitation (DOR). Devin Puente, a DOR vocational expert, will be speaking at the Ability Fair being held via Zoom October 27th, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. to noon. Devin will be highlighting DOR resources and services.

DOR provides the opportunity for college students with disabilities to partner with their services, alongside DSP&S., Come visit the Ability Fair to learn how DSP&S and DOR can work together to increase access and opportunity for students with disabilities in their academic and vocational journeys.
