DSP&S Steps for Success

Follow the steps in the following DSP&S Steps For Success Checklist.

Step 1: Apply for Admission to College

Visit cloviscollege.edu/apply to complete an application through CCCapply. It may take up to two business days to process your application.

Step 2: Set up Student Accounts

Once you receive your confirmation email, log in to your student portal: Click on “My Portal” under the search bar. Once you log in to your student portal you can access your student email, Canvas, Self Service, and other useful tools. Check your email daily as email is the primary way the college will communicate with you. For login instructions see Student Login Instructions for Email, Self-Service, Canvas, and the Wireless Network.

Step 3: New Student Orientation

Complete the Orientation at www.scccd.edu/orientation, or access the orientation through Self Service in your student portal. Refer to your portal login instructions to enroll in the course and complete the orientation. It may take 1 to 2 business days to clear your orientation hold.

Step 4: Apply for Financial Aid/Scholarships

Beginning on October 1 of each year, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at fafsa.gov or the California Dream Act application at dream.csac.ca.gov. For more information about scholarships, important deadlines, and financial aid, visit www.cloviscollege.edu/financialaid.

Step 5: Apply to DSP&S

DSP&S students use an online application portal, the Accessible Information Management platform (AIM) to apply, view, manage and independently coordinate their approved accommodations.

At any time after completing Step 2, you may visit the AIM portal and complete the application for services.

You will be prompted to upload a copy of your disability verification, which may include the most recent high school IEP/Psych report, 504 plan, Learning Disability verification, and/or any medical or mental health verification that is related to your disability.

Step 6: Intake appointment with a DSP&S Counselor

After you submit your AIM application and all required documentation, a DSP&S staff member will contact you to schedule your intake appointment. Contact us at 559-325-5050 or dsps@cloviscollege.edu if you have any questions regarding your application/intake status.

At your intake appointment, you will complete the next two steps and log back into AIM to review & sign any required forms.

Step 7: Academic Accommodation Plan (AAP)

During your intake appointment, you and your assigned DSP&S counselor will have an interactive discussion regarding any disability-related accommodations you may need to support your academic success. Accommodations are authorized based on your disability verification.

Step 8: Academic Advising

During your intake appointment, you and your counselor will create an Abbreviated Student Education Plan (SEPA), one to two semesters in length and designed to meet your immediate needs.

Schedule a follow-up appointment with your counselor to complete a Comprehensive SEP (SEPC) that includes all courses and activities needed to reach your educational goals.

Step 9: Register for Classes

Check your student email and/or Self Service for your assigned registration date. You can register in the following ways:

  1. Online using the Self Service app in your student portal, or
  2. On-campus in the Admissions Office (AC-1 Building ), or
  3. With a counselor

Step 10: Request your Faculty Notification Letter (FNL)

After registering for classes, you may log in to your DSP&S AIM Portal to submit your Faculty Notification Letter (FNL).

Each semester students must notify their instructors regarding their approved accommodations by requesting an FNL.

Visit “How to Request your Faculty Notification Letter (FNL) in AIM” for step-by-step instructions.

Step 11: Prepare for Instruction

Get your supplies, textbooks, equipment, and other resources required for your academic success prior to the first day of school. Visit the online bookstore. In addition, outline your weekly schedule and review to ensure you know where and where your class meets in person or Online.

Step 12: Support Resources

Clovis Community College offers several support programs you might also qualify for depending on your qualifications such as TRiO, EOP&S, Next Up, Veterans, and Honors. Visit student support programs for more information.
