Office of Administrative Services Update - August 2025

On Behalf of Kimberly Duong, Vice President of Administrative Services

The first three weeks of the semester have flown by! I hope everyone’s semester is off to a strong and positive start.

Mid-month, I had the opportunity to participate in architect interviews alongside members of the Clovis team and the district office. The firms we met with are being considered for the design of the new Kinesiology and Wellness Building, which is funded through the 2025–2026 California State Governor’s Budget.

Once a selection is finalized, we’ll share more information about the next steps in the process. Exciting progress is ahead!

Business Office

Firstly, I want to welcome Jessica Hecker to the Business Office team as the accounting technician. She joined us in the middle of July and has hit the ground running to help support our small but mighty team.

The Business Office worked hard at the beginning of the month to process all the financial aid going out to the students for the first couple weeks of the Fall semester.

Administrative Services

The timeline between receiving our final allocation and submitting the final budget was significantly shorter this year. As I mentioned during Opening Day, we received our final allocation much later than usual. Then, during the week of August 5, we were given an updated allocation—yet the submission deadline to the district office remained unchanged.

A huge thank you to Penny, Melinda, and Desiree for their incredible work in compiling and submitting all the worksheets on time. Your efforts are truly appreciated!

Building Services and Grounds

I want to take a moment to recognize the incredible work of our Building Services and Grounds teams. Their dedication and effort ensured our campus was not only ready for the first day of the semester but also prepared to host the Board meeting on the very next day.

A huge thank you to Sergio, Angel, Tony, Robbie, Jerald, Sandra, Erasmo, Moises, Bee, Riley, Ivan, Touathengka, Joe and Tom. Your commitment to keeping both the Willow campus and the Herndon campus looking their best does not go unnoticed. We truly appreciate all that you do!

Small Business Development Center

The SBDC had a lot happening this month too. Near the end of August, the SBDC hosted and co-sponsored The Industrious Women’s Summit which had over 100 participants. As Dr. Armstrong mentioned in one of her updates, she spoke as the keynote for the event.

Additionally Rich presented at an in-person Meet the Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) workshop in the South Valley at the Tulare Business in Innovation Zone (TBIZ).

By the end of the month our SBDC also met their final goals and deliverables for the year which ends September 30th. These goals are established by the State of California and related to serving clients within our service area.

Projects

We have several projects that have and will be happening this academic year, and I will provide updates as they progress:

  • Camera Project – Phase II: Work will occur in the month of September to replace old cameras and install new cameras inside and outside AC1.
  • AC1 Networking project: One section of this project was delayed and has been tentatively moved to be completed during winter break. This will not require a large move out as we did in the summer. More information will follow as we work to confirm the details.
  • AC2 – Health & Wellness Services Remodel: Construction work is tentatively planned to begin Summer 2026.
  • AC3 – Chemistry prep area independent cooling and T-bar ceiling: We are working on scheduling out installation for the independent cooling. The T-bar ceiling installation is pending DSA approval.
  • ISE Diamond L.I.F.E. Sports Complex: Construction is ongoing. Information about the groundbreaking will be announced soon.
  • Kinesiology and Wellness Center: The recommendation to select an architect for the new building was presented and approved at the September Board Meeting. HMC Architects was awarded the contract. More information will follow as we begin to work on the planning and feedback sessions.
