Week of April 21, 2025

Good morning, colleagues.

It has come to my attention and to that of relevant personnel that an unauthorized person or persons is/are routinely removing flyers posted to club and event boards located in AC1 and AC2 buildings on campus. These actions constitute a direct violation of district-wide policies and are currently under investigation.

As a reminder, the Student Code of Conduct strictly prohibits:

  • “Harassing, discriminatory, or retaliatory behavior based on disability, gender, gender identity, gender expression, nationality, race or ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or any other status protected by law.” Flyers promoting an event based on any legally protected status fall under this definition; consequently, destruction of any such flyers would be in violation of the Student Code of Conduct and district policy. The flyers removed have exclusively been those promoting events and activities intended to help create a safe and welcoming space for our entire CRUSH family through fostering meaningful dialogue around LGBTQ+ issues for all students who are and who are not part of the LGBTQ+ community. While this flyer content welcomes all students to participate in these events, the flyer content’s direct affiliation is with our campus’s LGBTQ+ students.
  • “Causing or attempting to cause damage to district property or to private property on campus.” Any removal of approved flyers per CCC’s Guidelines and Process for Campus Postings by unauthorized personnel constitutes destruction of private property on campus and violates this mandated standard.

Please note that The Student Code of Conduct also indicates that any violation of those standards “shall constitute good cause for discipline, including but not limited to the removal, suspension or expulsion of a student” pending the outcome of appropriate administrative processes. Such actions not only directly violate mandated Student Conduct standards; they undermine our shared commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful campus environment where all students can thrive.

I am asking every member of our campus community to do their part in ensuring that these actions do not continue. Please respect posted materials and report any suspicious behavior to the appropriate authorities. Your cooperation is appreciated as we work together to maintain a welcoming and safe campus for all.
