Geology

Why Study Geology at CCC?

Geology is the study of Earth's physical structure and materials, the history of the Earth, and the dynamic natural processes of the whole Earth System. This includes the formation and use of natural resources such as soil, water, oil, and gas, along with the effects of the weather, earthquakes, and volcanoes on landforms. Nearby we can find incredible geological locations such as Yosemite, Pinnacles National Parks, and a resource-rich setting of the Central Valley.

Connecting what you already know and have experienced to a deeper understanding the rocks, soils, rivers, and landscapes around you is a central goal of this program. Our instructors, courses, and related science and science teaching career opportunities are the cornerstones of a program designed to support students’ success in living lives they are proud of, pursuing the careers they are passionate about, and engaging in positive change for our communities.

Our Philosophy

“My love of nature and humanity drive my work.”
-Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson
