Virtual Meet
Launched by the Academy of American Poets in April 1996, National Poetry Month reminds the public that poets have an integral role to play in our culture and that poetry matters. Over the years, it has become the largest literary celebration in the world, with tens of millions of readers, students, K–12 teachers, librarians, booksellers, literary events curators, publishers, families, and, of course, poets, marking poetry's important place in our lives. In 2021, the Academy of American Poets looks forward to celebrating the twenty-fifth anniversary of this annual celebration!
Request poetry books through the library CCC OneSearch Catalog where you can find classic poets like ee cummings, modern poets like Joy Harjo, or local poet Philip Levine. We look forward to seeing you there!
During National Poetry Month in 2020, we asked our readers to share a poem from our Poets.org collection that helped them find courage, solace, and actionable energy, and a few words about how or why it does so. Responses arrived from across the globe, and we invite you to continue sharing poems on social media with the hashtag #ShelterInPoems or by on twitter, facebook, or instagram.
Search our extensive curated collection of over 10,000 poems by occasion, theme, and form, or search by keyword or poet's name

From the multimedia synthesis of Don Mee Choi’s DMZ Colony to the memory work of Diana Khoi Nguyen’s Ghost Of, contemporary Asian American poetry is emotionally resonant, genre-bending, and boundless. Asian American voices should be celebrated not only this month, but forever.
