Online Teaching Certification

Clovis Community College Online Teaching Certification

By now, you may have started to discover some challenges to teaching online – how can you encourage your students to participate? How can you adapt your lectures for an online environment? What’s the best way to grade online? How can we manage our time, and/or help our students manage their time?

The Clovis Community College Online Teaching Certification will help guide you through the principals of creating an effective online course. The course will explore common questions and best practices for teaching online. It will also inform you of Title 5 guidelines for regular effective contact and incorporating accessible content into your course. By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Develop online activities and apply tools based on online learning theories and best practices.
  • Demonstrate and incorporate California Community College distance education policies and procedures, Clovis Community College distance education policies and procedures (including accessibility), and Title 5 requirements.
  • Develop class policies including, but not limited to, those for grading, providing timely feedback, and student conduct issues.
  • Design learning activities that support a variety of student needs and promote interaction.

The certification course is 100% online and does not require any synchronous attendance. The course time varies based on your current comfort with technology and online teaching, but faculty can expect to spend up to 8 hours a week on course material. Faculty can apply for 2-unit salary advancement before May 1st.

The course is accelerated and takes place entirely in Canvas. Please enroll in the self-paced instructor Canvas orientation ahead of the certification course if you would like some additional Canvas guidance.
