The State Center Community College District Board of Trustees approved this appointment at the June 12 meeting.
Previously, Mr. Marco J. De La Garza served as Dean of Student Success and Support Programs at Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD). He served at two colleges, Pierce College and Los Angeles Valley College for eighteen years. Previous to his work in the LACCD, he was Assistant Director of Counseling in the Financial Aid office and an EOP Officer at California State University, Northridge.
His tenure at the LACCD included oversight in outreach & recruitment, dual enrollment, admission & records, graduation office, assessment, financial aid & scholarships, counseling, veteran services, international students, and first year experience
Mr. De La Garza earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mexican American Studies, and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies in Higher Education from California State University, Northridge.
He comes with the great commitment to student success and access, “I will strive to provide service to our diverse, dynamic and passionate staff of professionals that represent varied points of view but stand together as one for the success of our students," said Marco De La Garza.
