Crush women’s swim takes first in all 11 events at dual meet

Apr 3, 2019

Clovis North High School Aquatic Center. The Clovis Community College Swim and Dive teams hosted a dual meet with Merced College on Saturday, May 30. The Crush Women's Swim and Dive team had just come off of a 2nd placed showing at the COS Invitational, while the Men's Swim and Dive team managed to finish 3rd in the same competition.

The Women's team won their match-up with the Blue Devils by a score of 152-48, by winning every event on the schedule. The meet kicked off with a bang, as Freshman, Arianna Hernandez, powered ahead on the anchor leg of the 200 medley relay to take the team win in the event. A few events, later, Hernandez was responsible for more fireworks, as she broke the school record in the 50y freestyle, with a slight victory ahead of teammate, Dani Denton. Copeland, Hannah Carbajal, and Jade Standing were the only double event winners of the meet.

Copeland was responsible for taking the 1000y free and the 500y free, Carbajal touched first in the 400y individual medley and the 200y backstroke, and Standing scored the most points in both the 1m and 3m springboards. Other individual event winners included Dani Denton (100y free), Sara Barcelos (200y free), Chloe Telian (200y fly), and Samantha Rockey (200y breast). The Lady Crush, also swept the relays, as mentioned before, the team of Denton, Carbajal, Telian, and Hernandez finished first in the 200 medley relay and the combination of Copeland, Helen Harris, Rockey, and Barcelos won the 800 free relay.

The Men's team faced a tough task in going toe to toe with this year's favorite to win the Bay Valley Conference title, in the Merced Blue Devils. Eventually, the Crush fell to the Blue Devils by a score of 126-85. The uphill battle yielded four event wins for Clovis. Returning CCCAA All-American, Dante Ramos, outpaced the field in the 1000y freestyle. Colin Plank touched first in the 500y freestyle. Jaylan Neal outscored his teammate, Joshua Depaz, in both the 1m and 3m springboard diving events. While event wins were at a premium, the Crush took advantage of some good competition, which led to many season bests, thus far.
