James Sewell Named As New Director Of Athletics

Clovis Community College is proud to announce the hiring of James Sewell as Director of Athletics.

Mr. Sewell brings over twenty years of athletics administration, coaching, and fundraising experience to the College and will assist to elevate the Crush Athletics program.

Sewell, a native of Melville, New York, has spent the last two years as a Regional Major Gifts Officer for The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. In his role with Rotary, he oversaw the cultivation of major gifts across nine Rotary districts throughout California and Nevada.

James Sewell Athletics Director

Sewell previously worked at the University of Nevada in a dual leadership role as the Assistant Director of Athletics for Development and Director of Development for Athletics. He was part of a team that successfully raised more than $400,000,000 towards a transformational institutional capital campaign, and also functioned in a key role within the Department of Athletics with a focus on soliciting philanthropic gifts of $10,000 and greater in support of Wolf Pack student-athletes.

Before working at Nevada, Sewell spent 11 years at California State University, Fresno (Fresno State) in various roles, most recently as the Associate Director of Development for The Bulldog Foundation, where he was responsible for generating both annual gifts to the Scholarship Fund as well as major gifts to endowments and capital projects by identifying and strategically engaging both new prospects and existing donors through thoughtfully articulated cultivation plans.

Prior to his time at Fresno State, Sewell was the Director of Student-Athlete Services at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York, while also serving as the head men’s and women’s cross-country coach.

Sewell began his career in intercollegiate athletics at his alma mater as the head coach for the men’s and women’s track & field and cross-country programs at Adelphi University in Garden City, New York. During this time, Sewell played an instrumental role in the addition of the women’s track & field and cross-country programs, culminating in the Panthers' first-ever trip to the NCAA Championships in the fall of 2001. Sewell was a four-year captain of the men's track & field and cross-country teams and multiple time all-conference selection during his tenure as a student-athlete at Adelphi.

Sewell will oversee a Crush Athletics program which includes men’s and women’s soccer, swimming & diving, track & field, and cross country. Clovis Community College is a member of the Central Valley Conference and the California Community College Athletic Association.

Sewell and his wife, Lauren, and their two sons, Walter and Calvin, are proud residents of the Valley.
