Accreditation
Clovis Community College continues to work on finalizing the Institutional Self-Evaluation Report for the upcoming site visit March 5-8, 2018. Kelly Fowler, Leslie King, and Jennifer Simonson, the accreditation steering committee leaders, will be leading discussions about the accreditation process during the fall to ensure that everyone is prepared for the comprehensive visit next March.
College Governance Handbook Update
A subcommittee of the College Council, representing students, faculty, classified staff, and administration, is continuing work on the updated governance and decision-making handbook. The group has reviewed the current committee structure and discussed additions and changes to better support our growing college. This draft will be presented to the college community at the Fall 2017 Opening Day Meeting. Clovis Community College remains committed to providing a collegial atmosphere for participatory governance.
Students advance to next level math course with the help of “Math Blast”
Two sessions of the annual “Math Blast” were held this summer. Students who placed into Math 201 were offered an opportunity to take the free two-week course to improve their math skills, which may enable them to bypass the Math 201 course and place into a higher level math class for Fall 2017. A total of 14 students participated in the first session, and ten of these students earned a placement into a higher level of math. The second session is still on-going, and we anticipate successful results.
CTE short-term program debuts this fall
The Wastewater Treatment Operator Certificate program starts August 15. Students can earn their certificate in two semesters. The program teaches students the skills required to effectively operate and maintain waste water treatment facilities, do water mathematic calculations,and prepares students to take the State Water Resources Control Board examinations.
CCC holds well-attended adjunct faculty job fair
It was a great turn-out for the State Center Community College District adjunct faculty job fair. Attendees had
the opportunity to speak with the deans from Clovis Community College, Fresno City College, and Reedley College, and apply for part-time teaching positions this fall.
Men’s and Women’s soccer kicks-off 2nd season
The Clovis Crush soccer teams finished with an impressive inaugural season and we are excited to start the 2nd season.
Coach Orlando Ramirez serves as the women’s coach and Coach Chad McCarty serves as the men’s coach.

History professor Greg Morris attends World Former Foreign Harbiners Conference in Harbin, China in June
During the first two decades of the 20th century, tens of thousands of refugees, many fleeing revolution and civil war in Russia, flooded into Harbin creating a unique and complex society, remnants of which are still visible today. Mr. Morris, a descendent of Harbin Russians, was invited to share his family story and photos and participate in various events. They included an international academic seminar on the history of the former foreign residents, history and photo exhibition, trips to historic relics, and discussions on historic preservation efforts. Mr. Morris said it was an amazing experience and enjoyed meeting people from around the world with this shared history. It has sparked his continued research into the history of this unique place, turbulent times and remarkable people.
TRiO SSS/STEM students visit various 4-year colleges
This summer the Clovis/Madera TRiO SSS/STEM Programs took part in a three-day educational field trip. They took tours of UCSD, CSU San Diego, UCLA and CSU LA and also visited Universal Studios. Nearly 45 students attended along with 3 TRiO counselors.
ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) Club welcomes guest speaker Tess Treadwell
The Clovis Community College ACM club welcomed Tess Treadwell for a guest speaking and Q&A session on video game design and programming. Ms. Treadwell is a world-famous game developer with production, writing and design credits on Fallout: New Vegas. The event involved nearly 40 students and was connected with a summer session of IS-50A “Introduction to Game Programming.”
Clovis Community College assists in NASA Training
Engineering faculty from various California community colleges learned how to build drones and rockets as part of the NASA Minority University Research and Education Project grant program. The training was held at Fresno State in the engineering department, but they needed a large and open area to “fl y” the drones. CCC was excited to host the event on August 13.
