Why study Art at CCC

Art and design permeate everything we see, hear, touch, wear or otherwise interact with. A creative professional thought up the icons on your smartphone; designed the cut, color, and texture of your clothing; created the label on your favorite beverage; conceived of the characters in your favorite video game; told an engaging story through film or animation, and creatively solved a problem.

While honoring the traditions of the past, the Studio Arts Program at CCC has been structured to look forward. Our variety of courses, as well as our facilities, takes into account the contemporary art practices of working artists in the 21st Century. With our emphasis on both traditional and multimedia approaches to creative expression, students are well equipped to work in today's multi-disciplinary approach to artmaking.

Choosing to study Art at CCC is to choose classroom environments that are creative spaces led by dedicated artists from within the community. The Art team at Clovis will give you, as an artist, a foundation in the elements and principles of visual expressions as well as the techniques of production from a multimedia perspective.

Philosophy

The CCC Art faculty are here to foster the growth and development of our students while they are studying with us and beyond. Our focus is to prepare students to enter into the multiple career paths of visual communication fields such as graphic design, architecture, web-based media, animation, filmmaking, fine arts, and more. We will support you through scholarship opportunities, extracurricular activities, creating connections through community partnerships, and support while you reach your artistic goals. We are a rapidly expanding art program but will never be too big to give our students individual attention.

We can’t wait to see what you make!

Five Reasons to Study Art:

  • Students will be prepared to transfer, as well as complete, a Bachelor of Arts degree program at any CSU/UC campus.
  • No other major engages or encourages creativity as much as an art major.
  • Studying art improves performance in other subjects: Art enhances critical thinking and analysis, problem-solving skills, hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, creativity, and communication.
  • There is a need for creative skills in the world of work: No matter what career you choose, having the ability to display, arrange, and present material in a way that is aesthetically pleasing, will always be an advantage.
  • Studying and creating art is meaningful and can be an extremely satisfying investment of your time and dedication.
