Vice President's Message to Faculty

Good afternoon, colleagues.

I'll begin with a thank you. Thank you for your patience as we worked on plans to ensure the safety and wellness of all our staff and students. We must balance that safety and wellness with the need to ensure the integrity of the academic and support services we provide to our students. These planning efforts have spanned across departments and constituency groups, and the input has been invaluable. Above all, thank you for your flexibility as we transition to this new and daunting landscape. Your efforts on behalf of our students and your courage in venturing into the unknown by forging new and existing partnerships is commendable. I have been so impressed with the videos, the emails, the check-ins, and more.

As you know, with the exception of a Child Development practicum course, all instruction at CCC has been suspended March 16-19 to allow staff, faculty, and administrative units to acquire training and to learn from each other how best to create new spaces to learn and interact. Alongside the training, student services colleagues will continue to serve students during these days, and instructional faculty will work to migrate class content to Canvas.

Teresa Ishigaki, DE Coordinator, and Tracy Stuntz, Instructional Designer, have created a training schedule with many opportunities for all. We invite your participation in these sessions to ensure a smooth transition to remote services for our students. Our hope is that all will participate in some of these; for instructional faculty, I will ask that every faculty member participates in at least one session. Click link below to view professional development plan. Most sessions are available in-person as well as via Zoom. Recorded sessions will also be available on our YouTube channel (more information to follow). This plan may be updated, so please monitor your email and the website for updates.

Finally, we are in the process of scheduling Town Hall sessions for faculty and staff to meet with the administrative team on Monday and Tuesday. Please watch your email and the website for the details.

In closing, I'll ask that we continue to do our level best, not just for our students, but also for each other. Let's work together to ensure we avoid isolation: continue to check on one other. Let's develop and grow our virtual community to provide support for each other in that realm. Let's be flexible, learn together, and above all practice patience and forgiveness as we navigate this arena.
