Position

Clovis Community College is seeking an equity-minded Vice President of Instruction that will provide unifying and participatory leadership to a dynamic, complex, and diverse college. The vice president will build upon the college’s strong legacy of achievement and leadership in the community.

The vice president will be a student-focused, dynamic, kind and collaborative leader who is committed to advancing student access, equity, and success for our diverse student body. The vice president will expand existing relationships with community organizations and build upon strong partnerships with to advance the economic and social mobility of our students.

Clovis Community College (CCC) is a fully accredited two-year public college in California’s agricultural Central Valley, situated between Fresno County’s two largest cities, Fresno and Clovis. The college is a Hispanic Serving Institution enrolling more than 8,500 students a semester, with 43% of those are Hispanic and 66% are low-income.

The vice president will collaborate with their dedicated team of professionals to ensure that the college maintains its strong integration of student equity and success, while working towards achieving Clovis Community College’s mission and strategic goals. The vice president is responsible for providing leadership and vision for college-wide student services and ensuring an increase in student completion rates.

Clovis Community College is known for its innovative spirit, positive climate, high transfer rates, and dedication to closing equity gaps. The faculty, staff, and leadership are creative, caring, collegial, and collaborative and focused on student success. The College is a long-standing guided pathways College and has recently joined the Achieving the Dream network in 2024.  The College is seeking a leader who will facilitate and nurture this climate, as the campus grows and evolves.

Minimum and Desirable Qualifications

All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices;

AND

  • Earned master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution; and seven (7) years of increasingly responsible experience as an academic administrator or in a faculty leadership role, at least two years of which years were in a management capacity involving student services functions, operations and activities, preferably in a California community college;

OR

  • Meet the state minimum qualifications for an educational administrator, which include a master’s degree and at least one year of formal training, internship or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrative assignment;

OR

  • California Community College Supervisory Credential.

Experience and skill with addressing issues of equity; recent experience working with African American, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusions of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes; willingness to examine and remediate one’s relational practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students; and a commitment to participatory governance, consensus building, and team approach to management.

Clovis Community College students are served by faculty, staff, and administrators committed to student achievement and academic excellence. The next president must build upon a strong campus legacy, lead the college to higher levels of excellence, and continue to fulfill a prominent leadership role in the community.

Effective Organizational Leadership Knowledge and evidence of leadership experience in higher education with a demonstrated understanding of the complex dynamics of a large multi-college district, including efficient and streamlined processes and procedures in fostering a campus climate that normalizes anti-racism and equity for racially minoritized students and students with intersectional identities. Experience in leading fiscal management, budgetary processes, strategic planning, human resources development, collective bargaining, curriculum and instruction, enrollment management, student services, facilities management, and fundraising a large multi-college district. Understands the importance of the College President’s role within the authority structure in a multi-college district. Engages in a creative, innovative, and collaborative manner with District and College leadership. Accesses and assimilates information through collection and use of quantitative and qualitative data for decision-making, planning, mobilizing resources, and motivating individuals to creatively overcome challenges facing the College and to make continuous improvements in operations, programming, procedures, and services.

Leadership in Dynamic Times Provide visionary and strategic leadership and guidance as the College adjusts to changing landscapes with a focus on advancing and maintaining educational quality within a College-wide culture of equity-mindedness and anti-racism, increasing access, and student success during and after the current pandemic crisis. This will include building back enrollments and outreach efforts and adjusting instructional and support services delivery modalities to better meet the needs of students and communities served by the College.
Community Mindedness Maintains high visibility and has the aptitude to cultivate and maintain external relationships throughout the College service area and region; demonstrates evidence of understanding the varying diverse needs of the communities served by CCC and is active and visible in the greater Clovis/Fresno communities; commits personally and supports others in seeking external forms of resources through formal organizations, such as foundations, and community partnerships. Understands that CCC is a growing suburban college that also serves the needs of the rural communities. CCC is active and visible in the Greater Clovis/Fresno communities, building strong coalitions and working with leaders of local school districts and the Cities of Clovis and Fresno, non-profits, and community service organizations, increasing philanthropic support and CCC’s brand recognition and positive reputation. Values the arts and music curriculum and the opportunities created through those areas to engage students and the community. Embraces and appreciates the unique cultural and dynamic environments of the many diverse local communities throughout the College service area. Values the strengths each of the areas contributes, and at the same time serves as a catalyst for change by engaging stakeholders through actively addressing barriers associated with generational poverty and systemic racism which have existed for decades throughout the region.
