History Associate in Arts Degree for Transfer 2021-2022

The Associate in Arts in History for Transfer Degree provides a clear track for students wishing to transfer to a CSU campus, exposes students to the principles and practices of the discipline of History, and builds a foundation for students’ personal, academic, and professional endeavors.

The degree enables students to transfer to certain CSU four-year programs, preparing them for advanced university studies and potential careers in areas such as teaching, archival research, public history, government service, journalism, business, and law. History graduates are well suited for fields that require effective reading, writing, and critical thinking skills, as well as historically informed perspectives on contemporary global society.

The Associate in Arts in History for Transfer Degree provides students with a major that fulfills the general requirements of the California State University for transfer. Students with this degree will receive priority admission with junior status to the California State University system

Additional Information

  1. Upon completing the Associate in Arts in History for Transfer Degree students will be able to identify important people, events, and factors influencing the direction of human history.

  1. Completion of 60-semester units or 90 quarter units that are eligible for transfer to the California State University, including both of the following:
    1. The Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or the California State University General Education – Breadth requirements.
    2. A minimum of 18-semester units or 27 quarter units in a major or area of emphasis, as determined by the community college district.
  2. Obtainment of a minimum grade point average of 2.0. Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADTs) also require that students must earn a “C” grade or better in all courses required for the major or area of emphasis.

  • Certification of either the California State University General Education Breadth (CSU GE-Breadth) or the intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC-CSU version) is required. CSU GE-Breadth and IGETC advising sheets are available in Student Services, AC2-133 or online at CCC GE (CSU/UC) GE and Major Sheets
  • Courses may double count in the major and CSU GE-Breadth or IGETC.
