Political Science Associate in Arts Degree for Transfer 2021-2022

(Major C.7450.AA-T)

The Political Science Associate in Arts Degree for Transfer allows students to begin their major in Political Science at Clovis Community College and transfer to a CSU campus for completion in pursuit of a Bachelor of Arts degree. The courses offered as part of the AA-T in Political Science degree give students a strong foundation in the study of American politics and government, nation-states, international actors, political theory, and political science methodology. In this way, students will be prepared for a broad spectrum of pursuits within the discipline, including, but not limited to, public administration, law, public relations, lobbying, political consulting, crisis management, journalism, public policy research, higher education, and K-12 education.

Additional Information

  • Students will be advised by counseling to take Elementary Statistics (MATH-11 or STAT-7) to satisfy the mathematical Concepts and Quantitative Reasoning area requirement.
  • Certification of either the California State University General Education Breadth (CSU GE-Breadth) or the intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC-CSU version) is required.

  • Courses may double count in the major and CSU GE-Breadth or IGETC.

  1. Describe the historically significant theories employed within the discipline of political science
  2. Interpret and evaluate political events through a critical comparison of local, state, national and international political frameworks and institutions
  3. Explain the complex relationship between political culture, diverse political institutions, and patterns of global engagement.

  1. Completion of 60-semester units or 90 quarter units that are eligible for transfer to the California StateUniversity, including both of the following:
    1. The Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or the California State UniversityGeneral Education – Breadth requirements.
    2. A minimum of 18-semester units or 27 quarter units in a major or area of emphasis, as determined by the community college district.
  2. Obtainment of a minimum grade point average of 2.0. Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADTs) also require that students must earn a “C” grade or better in all courses required for the major or area of emphasis.
