Opioid Overdose Prevention - May 2023
Opioid overdose is a serious public health concern that has reached epidemic levels in many countries. Overdose can occur due to misuse of prescription opioid drugs as well as use of street drugs containing opioids. According to the latest available data from 2021, in the United States alone, opioid overdoses resulted in over 69,000 deaths in 2020, which is the highest number on record. Learning how to quickly recognize and appropriately respond to signs of opioid overdose can help reduce the number of opioid-related deaths.
